In 1993, Woodruff left NewsHour to join CNN. Tom Johnson originally approached her about working for CNN at the end of 1992, and she accepted the position four months later after some trepidation. In June 1993, Woodruff began co-hosting the daily political chat show Inside Politics with Bernard Shaw, as well as the foreign news program The World Today with Frank Sesno.
Woodruff stayed on as co-anchor of WorldView until it was canceled in 2001.
